Blogs in Plain English

Lee Lefever has done it again with an excellent 3-minute video clip introducing Blogs to the lay audience. If you have seen his other Commoncraft videos, you’re gonna love this one.

Every now and then, a video comes along that explains a complex idea so clearly, you wonder how you ever misunderstood it in the first place. That’s exactly what Lee LeFever did with his legendary explainer video: “Blogs in Plain English.”

In just a few minutes, LeFever breaks down what a blog is—not in tech jargon, but in real human language. He uses simple drawings and relatable examples to show how blogs shifted the internet from a one-way street (big media talking at us) into a two-way conversation (anyone sharing their voice).

“Blogs are websites that are made up of short, frequently updated posts… arranged in reverse chronological order.” – LeFever

What makes this video timeless is its clarity. Whether you’re 15 or 55, it connects. It’s not about the tools—it’s about people sharing ideas, stories, opinions, and expertise. It celebrates the power of the individual voice.

As someone who believes in digital empowerment, I see blogging as a digital citizenship skill. It’s how we shape narratives, build credibility, and participate in global conversations.

Even today, in the age of social media algorithms and AI-generated content, the core message still holds:

Your blog is your platform. Your voice matters.

If you’ve never seen it—or haven’t in a while—go watch “Blogs in Plain English.” It just might inspire you to start writing again.
